Chinito Rules

I believe that I have always been a pure Pinoy (Filipino) by heart. One of my college Professors contested my belief though. She said that I was not proud being a Filipino because of how I look.

Many have been said about my physical attributes –that I look so Korean or Chinese and so on and so forth. But who is to blame? Just because I look foreign doesn’t mean that I am not proud being a Filipino. In fact, I LOVE Filipinos and I LOVE that I am a Pinoy.

Anyways, I am blogging about this because yesterday marked the 116^th Philippine Independence Day and today is Flashback Friday. So I would like to show you some throwback pictures of me wearing traditional Filipino costumes. Let’s see how Pinoy I look.

The Barong Tagalog (or simply Baro) is an embroidered formal dress from the Philippines. Baro is a Filipino word which means Dress. It is usually made from a variety of indigenous fabrics such as Pineapple fabric, Jusi fabric (made from abaca) and/or Banana fabric.

It is popularly (but mistakenly) called Barong instead of Baro. Barong Tagalog, translated to English, means Dress of the Tagalog people.

Lately I have been thinking about how I wanted to be remembered when I’m gone. Will I even be remembered? Or forgotten? If so, how soon?

I have always been a huge fan of Saturdays and Sundays –days when you do not deprive yourself of a 10-hour sleep or a good 1 hour or so siesta. Not that I am lazy for work or something. It’s just that Saturdays and Sundays give me the time to be with my friends, enjoy the things that I want to do without worries or sometimes just have a ‘me’ time.

One Saturday, I went out with a friend (who is also a blogger), Kai Grafia, to take her pictures for her own blog. After how many wardrobe changes, she insisted that I should also pose for the camera. At first I wasn’t really up to it because I get frustrated when I don’t get good pictures of me. You know that scenario when you take a hundred of photos of yourself but you end up deleting all other photos and what’s left is like 3-5 pictures only?! It’s too frustrating.

Anyways, I thought that I can use these photos for my blog so I gave in to her suggestion. Here’s what I wore that day and I hope you’ll be gentle with your comments. LOL :-p

You might be wondering why I was idle for so long. Well, it’s just because last year, I promised myself that I would not post any entry unless it’s a fashion blog entry. And so here it is. Yiiippppeeee…..!!!!! (CONFETTI SHOWER!)

Today, I welcome myself to this fashion blog world. (Insert APPLAUSE here) Thank you! Thank you!

Anyways, recently, I have attended a party at Garden Orchid Convention Center. It was STI College’s 30^th Anniversary and I was glad that they still invited me even though I am not part of the institution already.

I absolutely love the theme of the event. It was a DENIM PARTY so everyone was wearing a touch of denim. I would like to unleash the shy fashionista in me so I asked for the help of a very good and pretty blogger and friend, Ms. Kai Grafia for wardrobe. Sometimes I hate it that I am very petite but sometimes it becomes an advantage. Just like this time. Kai’s denim long sleeves from romwe.com fits so well that it actually looks good to me despite the fact that it’s a for-her clothing.

I also tried to accessorize a little to sport an edgy look. I opted to choose light colors like sky blue and white so as not to look like an asian punk star.

So what do you think guys? Can I pass a fashion blogger? (smiley)

P.S. I still don’t know how to write a fashion blog so please pardon me for my first entry. But your comments, critiques, and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Monitor Shopping

Origin: a play on the term “window shopping”

Definition: The act of browsing through online shopping sites without buying anything. It’s window shopping minus the walking around the mall.

Usage: Since I don’t have a paycheck yet, I have no choice but do some monitor shopping for now.

Lust-Have

Origin: lust + must-have

Definition: Refers to “to-die for” items which you have been wanting to buy (but you don’t really need).

Usage: The latest iPhone is a total lust-have!

Recyclopath

Origin: recycle + psychopath

Definition: This word is used to describe someone who is so into recycling that he or she does not want to throw away anything he or she owns.

Usage: Our room is almost starting to look like a junk shop because of my sister who’s a recyclopath.

Origin: food + suffix –phile, which means love

Definition: This is the new term for food enthusiasts. You will often see a foodophile anywhere from gourmet restaurants to weekend food markets.

Usage: I want to try a lot of good restaurants. I’m a certified foodophile.

Twypo

Origin: Twitter + typo (short for typographical error)

Definition: If you mistyped a word or made an accidental grammatical mistake while tweeting.

Usage: Sorry for the twypo in my last tweet.

Fruit Salad

Origin: An allusion to the colorful, Christmas dessert

Definition: In fashion, it is the 2012 term for an outfit that has mixed prints that are big and bold. Think Lady Gaga.

Usage: Katy Perry came to the awards show in a fruit salad, but it actually worked for her. She became the center of attention.
